How to Connect Instagram to Fiko

Before you start

Prerequisites

  • •Instagram Business or Creator account (not Personal)
  • •Facebook Page linked to the Instagram account
  • •Admin access to both the Facebook Page and Instagram account
Step by step

Follow these steps in order

Convert to Business or Creator account (if needed)

On Instagram mobile: Settings → Account → Switch to Professional. Choose Business or Creator. Personal accounts cannot connect to any chatbot — this is a Meta API restriction.

Link Instagram to a Facebook Page

On Instagram mobile: Settings → Account → Linked Accounts → Facebook. Connect the Page that represents your business. Fiko requires this link to access Messaging API.

Enable DM access in Instagram settings

On Instagram: Settings → Privacy → Messages → Allow access to messages. Without this, Fiko cannot read incoming DMs.

Open Fiko Channels page

In Fiko dashboard: Channels → Instagram → Connect. You'll be redirected to Meta's authorization page.

Authorize Fiko in Meta

Sign in to Facebook with the account that owns your business Page. Grant Fiko the requested permissions (read messages, send messages, manage comments). Click Confirm.

Verify the connection

Back in Fiko, you'll see your Instagram account listed under Channels with a green 'Connected' badge. Test by sending a DM to your account from another phone.

(Optional) Enable comment-to-DM automation

In Workflows → New, create a When node with trigger 'instagram_comment'. Add an Action node 'Send DM' with your preferred reply. Now comments on your posts can automatically trigger DMs.

Common questions

Meta's Instagram Messaging API requires Instagram Business/Creator accounts to be linked to a Facebook Page. The API call goes through the Page's permissions. This is the same setup ManyChat, Tidio, and every other Instagram automation tool requires.
Yes. In Fiko: Channels → Instagram → Disconnect. Removes Fiko's access immediately. Your Instagram account is unaffected.
Both. Workflows can trigger on Instagram comments (instagram_comment trigger) and reply with a public comment, a DM, or both. Customize per workflow.
